About Visjonær Consulting's Principal Timothy S. JacobsonTimothy S. Jacobson, J.D., an attorney for two decades, is an entrepreneur, Emmy-winning filmmaker, internationally-recognized writer, and conservationist who led a variety of non-profit and for-profit organizations as an executive and as a board member.

While leading Mississippi Valley Conservancy, that organization was named “Land Trust of the Year” as well as “Outstanding Organization – Friend of Conservation” for the State of Wisconsin. In 2012, MVC was awarded national land trust accreditation. Tim worked to grow the organization from about 500 members to more than 1,500, and the acreage permanently protected by MVC increased from 2,800 to more than 15,000 in just a few years.

Jacobson is the executive producer of the Emmy-winning 'Mysteries of the Driftless,' a documentary film about conservation in the Driftless Area of the Upper Mississippi River.In addition to his work as a conservationist, lawyer and writer, Jacobson is the executive producer of “Mysteries of the Driftless,” an Emmy-winning documentary film about conservation in the Driftless Area of the Upper Mississippi River, which has been broadcast multiple times on PBS and has been an official selection at film festivals in multiple states.

A magazine conceived, and largely edited and written, by Timothy S. Jacobson garnered both national and international awards for communication excellence. In April 2013, Jacobson accepted a ClearMark Award of Distinction from the Center for Plain Language on behalf of Mississippi Valley Conservancy in a ceremony held at The National Press Club in Washington DC. In May 2013, the International Academy of Visual Arts has recognized the Conservancy and its outside design consultant, NewGround, Inc., with a Communicator Award of Distinction.

Jacobson has been called on many times to fire up the crowd with inspirational speeches at conservation-related conferences. He has presented at the annual conferences of the Upper Mississippi River Conservation Committee (UMRCC), Mississippi River Parkway Commission (a ten-state organization), Wisconsin Association of Land Conservation Employees (WALCE), Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association (WLWCA), the River Conference in the Quad Cities. and the Driftless Area Initiative.

Super LawyersJacobson’s skilled legal advocacy led Law & Politics and Milwaukee Magazine to jointly name him a “Super Lawyer,” and he successfully pursued cases before the United States Supreme Court, the Iowa Supreme Court and the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, as well as numerous trial courts.

He served as president of a law firm, vice-president and “chief techie geek” of a dot-com business, and general counsel of a privately-held energy firm, in addition to his work as executive director of a nonprofit land trust.

Also, he has served as a partner in the highly-successful collaboration known as the Blufflands Alliance—a group of land trusts in the four states of the Upper Mississippi River Valley whose joint efforts resulted in the protection of more than 50,000 acres in that highly-fragmented, but rare and precious landscape.

Jacobson is the author of 'Explosive Marketing for Nonprofits: Trajectory for Success,' which is expected to be published in 2014. Also, he has published magazine articles about land conservation, international peace and justice issues, computer security, and law. He frequently has been profiled on TV, in newspapers and magazines for his legal and conservation work and his involvement in international issues.

Jacobson has also served as a U.S. Air Force Auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol) mission pilot with the rank of Major. He’s even been a blacksmith at a living history museum, and he earned a black belt in karate and an advanced scuba diving certification.

Jacobson grew up in rural Wisconsin and developed a deep love of the outdoors. He enjoys hiking, camping, rock climbing, kayaking, scuba diving, writing, documentary filmmaking, karate, blacksmithing, flying airplanes and spending time with family. He lives in scenic Boscobel along the Wisconsin River with his wife and stepchildren. He has an adult daughter, son-in-law and grandson in La Crosse.
